System Requirements
STATMAN Baseball requires the following minimum configuration:
An IBM Personal Computer or strict "compatible" running
the MS-DOS or PC-DOS operating system version 2.1 or
later, or OS/2 version 1.0 or later.
Monochrome or Color Display, Hercules, CGA, EGA or VGA.
One floppy disk and a hard disk drive with approximately 1
megabyte free space.
At least 312K of free memory (after DOS and any TSRs are
loaded).
PART 2 Installing STATMAN
The Test Drive version of STATMAN Baseball is distributed in
a single, compessed format file called an archive file.
1) Create a directory on your hard disk called STATMAN.
2) Uncompress the archive file and load all of the
uncompressed files into the STATMAN directory.
3) You must now build the player data base by entering one
of the following:
american (if you will be drafting from the American
League).
national (if you will be drafting from the National
League).
4) Enter STATMAN at the DOS prompt to start STATMAN.
For your convenience, a batch file called STATMAN.BAT has
been added to the STATMAN directory during installation.
Copy the STATMAN.BAT file to a directory that is in your
computer's search path. Then all you need to do is type
STATMAN and the batch file will be executed to start
STATMAN. Please refer to the PATH command in your DOS Users
Manual.
The databases have been pre-loaded with the National League or
American League players. Its ready to run as-is, but you may want
to configure STATMAN for your particular needs.
The software makes extensive use of pop-up windows for data entry
and menus. The menus list the options that are available. You may
select any of the options by highlighting it; press the up and
down arrow keys and then press the enter key to execute the
option. You may also execute an option by pressing the number (or
letter) next to the option on the menu.
The Escape key can be used to abort any operation in STATMAN. If
you make a mistake while entering data and just want to start all
over again, hit the escape key. You can also hit the Escape key
to back out of a menu (return to the next higher menu).
If you need assistance, you can press the F1 key at any time.
This will pop-up a help window that will provide additional
information and assistance.
Part 3 SCREEN NAVIGATION AND DATA ENTRY
This section explains the keys used to navigate through STATMAN's
menus and how to enter data.
3.1 Online User Help Screens
STATMAN comes with field by field context-sensitive help screens.
No matter where you are in the program, you can hit the F1 key to
get help. After typing the F1 key, the help screen will guide
you with instructions for the field under the cursor.
After typing the F1 key, a Help Screen will appear. At the
top of the box, will be the name of the field or menu for
which help was requested. The interior of the help box will
display one or more pages of help information. At the
bottom will be three fields labeled "Next", "Back" and
"Exit". The "Next" option is used to view the next page of
help information. The "Back" option is used to view the
previous page of help information. The "Exit" option is used
to remove the help screen. In order to execute any of the
options, move the highlight to the option by pressing the
left-arrow or right-arrow cursor keys. Then press the enter
key.
As you display additional pages of help information, the high-
light will attempt to anticipate your next action. For example:
if there are multiple pages of help information, the highlight
will be automatically placed on the "Next" option. You can
simply press then Enter key to view the next page. At the last
page of help information, the highlight will move to the "Back"
option. Simply hit the Enter key to view the previous page of
information. When you are finished viewing the help information,
move the highlight to the "Exit" option and press the Enter key.
3.2 Navigating Menus
Navigating through menus is a very simple procedure. When
STATMAN is first started, you will see the Main Menu
displayed on the screen with option number 1, "Update
Statistics", highlighted. Whenever the highlight is on a
menu option, you can execute that option by hitting the
"Enter" key. To select another menu option, move the
highlight by pressing the "Up" and "Down" arrow keys. You
may also type the letter or number that corresponds to the
option you want and that option will be executed.
Every menu in STATMAN contains an Exit option. The Exit option
can be executed several ways. First, you can move the highlight
to the option and press the Enter key. Or you can press the "X"
key. Or you can simply hit the Escape key.
The menus in STATMAN are organized hierarchically. This means
that you will navigate downward through a hierarchy to get to the
option desired. The Main Menu is the top of the hierarchy and is
displayed upon entry into STATMAN. Selecting The following
options from the Main Menu will take you to a lower level menu:
Statistics (takes you to the Statistics Menu)
Reports (takes you to the Reports Menu)
Rot. Team Maintenance (takes you to the Team Maintenance
Menu)
Owner Maintenance (takes you to the Owner Maintenance
Menu)
Configuration (takes you to the Configuration Menu)
As you go down a menu hierarchy, the previous menu continues to
be displayed on the screen as a visual reminder of the path down
the hierarchy.
To return up the hierarchy to the Main Menu, simply hit the
Escape key or highlight the Exit option and press the Enter key.
As you exit a menu, it will be removed from the screen to show
that it is no longer in effect.
3.3 Data Entry
This section explains the function of the data entry screens and
the keys used to enter data into STATMAN.
Data entry screens are used to enter data into STATMAN. The
data entry screen will be displayed as a popup screen with
field prompts, data entry fields and other information.
Prompts
The first field prompt is "Major League Team". The prompt
specifies that the data entry field follows and that you are
to enter the Major League Team Abbreviation in that field.
Data Entry Fields
To the right of the prompt is the data entry field. The data
entry fields are the only place the cursor will move to and
consequently the only fields that will accept keyboard input.
The data entry fields are usually shown highlighted.
Other Information
Occasionally, other information will be displayed on the data
entry screen. For example, after entering a Major League Team
Abbreviation, the long team name will appear as confirmation that
the correct abbreviation was entered.
There are also Function Keys displayed at the bottom of the
computer screen. These Function Keys are available to perform
specific functions such as display pick lists of player names,
open the Notepad or display Help information. The function keys
will change according to the data entry field that the cursor is
on.
Entering Data
To enter data into a data entry field, just type what you want on
the keyboard. As you type, the data will appear on the screen in
the field. Each data entry field is limited in size; you cannot
type more characters than will fit into the field.
3.4 Entering Dates
Dates are always entered in STATMAN in the following format:
MM/DD/YY MM = Month (01-12)
DD = Day of Month
YY = Year relative to 1900
For example: to enter April 21, 1990, enter 04/21/90. As you are
typing, the cursor will automatically enter the "/" (slash)
character.
Most dates entered into STATMAN are adjusted to be a week ending
date. In STATMAN, a week is Monday through Sunday. If you enter
a date between Monday and Saturday (inclusive), it will be
automatically adjusted to be the following Sunday (Sunday dates
are not adjusted since they already specify the week ending
date).
3.5 Pick Lists
In order to make it easier to enter data, specific fields in
STATMAN have the option to press a function key to get a
list of information for entry in that field. For example,
if the cursor is on the Major League Team field, a press of
the F4 key will display a list of Major League Team Names.
The list is referred to in STATMAN as a Pick List.
You can select an item in a pick list by highlighting it
with the cursor keys. Press the Enter key and the item will
be returned to the data entry screen. When there are
multiple screens of data, use the cursor keys (up and down
arrow keys) to scroll to the additional pages. The Page-Up
and Page-Down keys can also be used to display additional
items in the pick list.
3.6 Entering Major League Team Abbreviations
STATMAN identifies players with two pieces of information; their
Major League Team and their name. Many screens will prompt you
to enter the Major League Team Abbreviation in order to identify
a player. The prompt usually appears on the screen as "ML Team".
The Major League Team Abbreviations and Long Names can be viewed
using the Configuration Menu option "ML Team Names" (select
"Configuration" from the Main Menu, then "ML Team Names" from the
Configuration Menu).
An easier, and more timely way to view the Major League Team
Abbreviations is by using the pick list function key; F4.
Whenever the cursor is on the "ML Team" data entry field, hit the
F4 key to bring up a list of all teams in the league. One of the
teams can be copied to the "ML Team" data entry field by high-
lighting it (use the cursor keys) and then press the Enter key
(see Pick List in the previous section).
After the Major League Team Abbreviation has been entered, the
long name for that team is printed on the screen as further
confirmation that the correct team was entered.
3.7 Entering Player Names
As stated in the previous section, STATMAN identifies players
with two pieces of information; their Major League Team and their
name. Names must by typed exactly as they are stored in the data
base or STATMAN will not recognize the player. This means that
the same spelling must be used. STATMAN converts names to upper
case so you can enter the name in any combination of upper and
lower case letters as long as each letter matches the name in the
data base without regard to case.
STATMAN also includes several features to ease this burden of
remembering the exact spelling of player names.
When the cursor first moves to the player name data entry field,
the first player (alphabetically) for the team is automatically
displayed.
You can press the F2 key to scroll (alphabetically) through the
players on the team. With each press of the F2 key, the next
name will appear in the data entry field until you reach the end
of the roster.
You can press the F4 key to get a pick list of all of the players
on the team. A pick list is a popup screen that displays all of
the players of the team. You can copy one of the names to the
data entry screen by highlighting it with the cursor keys. When
you press the Enter key, the name will be copies into the data
entry screen. See the section on pick lists above.
Press the F5 key to get a pick list of all of the players in the
league. Since the data base is so large, the pick list may take
several minutes to appear on the screen. Refer to the section
above on Pick Lists for instructions on how to copy a player name
back to the data entry field.
3.8 Entering Report Targets
STATMAN has the capability of printing reports to one of
several targets; the printer, the computer's screen or a
disk file. Whenever you select a report to be printed, you
are given to opportunity to direct that report using the
Target data entry field. To direct the report to the
computer's screen, hit the Enter key or type "S" in the
field and hit the Enter key. The report will be displayed
on the computer's screen.
To direct the report to the computers printer, type "P" and hit the
Enter key. The report will be displayed on the attached printer.
To direct the report to a disk file, type "D" and hit the Enter key.
You will then be prompted for a path for the disk file. Enter a full
path name. Please refer to your computer's reference manual for a
description of how to construct full path names.
Directing a report to a disk file is useful if you want to transfer the
report to another computer to be printed or if you want to distribute
the report to owners using a floppy disk or over a bulletin board
system.
Part 4 CONFIGURATION
This section explains how to configure STATMAN in order to more closely
match your needs.
The configuration that comes with STATMAN is based on standard
Rotisserie League Baseball rules. This configuration may be changed to
reflect your league's individual requirements.
4.1 Configuration Menu
The Configuration Menu can be displayed by selecting "Configuration"
from the Main Menu.
There are 8 options available on the Configuration Menu that effect the
customization of your league.
The ML Team Names option is used to view or enter Major League Team
abbreviations and long names.
The Points Data option is used to specify how STATMAN distributes points
to Fantasy/Rotisserie Teams. This option has a direct effect on how
standings are calculated.
The Rules option specifies which statistics are to be used in
calculating standings. The Cost option is used to set defaults for
transaction costs and to specify your leagues cost per point.
The Miscellaneous option allows you to change the season start and end
dates, specify which league you are drafting from, and modify other op
tions.
The Screen Colors option allows you to change the way STATMAN is
displayed on your monitor.
The Positions option allows you to specify the number of players in each
playing position.
The System Paths option allows you to specify which directories on the
hard disk contain the STATMAN data bases.
A detailed explanation of each option follows.
4.2 Major League Team Names
The ML Team Names option allows you to view and change the Major League
Team Names. This option is selected by first executing the
Configuration option on the Main Menu and then the ML Team Names option
on the Configuration Menu.
STATMAN is distributed with the American League and National League team
abbreviations and long names already in the data bases. The ONLY time
that you would need to make a change would be for a future "Expansion"
of either the American League or National League.
To change any of the information on the Team Names screen, simply move
the cursor to that information and type in new information. To add a new
team, move the cursor to the first empty slot on the screen and type in
the abbreviation and long team name. After completing your changes,
type the Escape key to return to the Configuration Menu.
4.3 Points Data
The Points Data option allows you to specify the points allocated to
each place in the standings. This option can be reached by first
selecting "Configuration" from the Main Menu and then selecting "Points
Data" from the Configuration Menu.
There are 17 fields corresponding to the maximum number of
Fantasy/Rotisserie teams. If your league has 10 teams, only the first
10 fields would b used. When STATMAN calculates standings, it first
ranks all of the teams in each statistical category. The first place
team is allocated the number of points specified in field one of the
Points Data screen. The second place team in each statistical category
is allocated the number of points found in the second field, and so on
to the last place team.
The official Rotisserie League rules specifies that points are
distributed evenly across the number of teams in a league. In other
words, in a 10 team league, the first place team would receive 10 points
and the last place team would receive 1 point. The sample screen shown
to the right is setup according to Rotisserie League specifications.
You can configure STATMAN for your requirements. For example, let's
assume you will be calculating standings using all 8 statistical
categories. These include:
Batting Average
Home Runs
Runs Batted In
Stolen Bases
Earned Run Average
Wins
Saves
Composite Pitching Ratio
Each team will be ranked according to performance in each statistical
category. Perhaps Team #1 is first in Wins and third in Saves. If you
use the points established by standard Rotisserie League rules, Team #1
will receive 10 points for Wins and 8 points for Saves for a total of 18
points that are counted toward Team #1's overall standings.
4.4 Rules
The Rules option allows you to specify which statistical categories are
to be included when calculating standings. This option can be reached
by first selecting "Configuration" from the Main Menu and then selecting
"Rules" from the Configuration Menu.
The screen allows you to specify which statistical categories are to be
included when calculating standings. If a category is to be included,
type "Y" next to the prompt. If the category is to be ignored, type "N".
The specifications that you enter here apply to all Fantasy/Rotisserie
teams. To return to the Configuration Menu, type the Escape key.
These statistical categories are the same as used by official Rotisserie
League rules. You DO NOT have to use all of these for your league;
however, you MUST make your selection from this list.
4.5 Cost
The Cost option allows you to specify the default cost for transactions
and to specify the conversion of points to money. This option can be
reached by first selecting "Configuration" from the Main Menu and then
selecting "Cost" from the Configuration Menu.
In STATMAN, each owner has two accounts for keeping track of charges;
the Draft Account and the Transaction Account.
The Draft Account starts with a balance that is specified on the Cost
Screen. Each time a player is drafted, the price paid is subtracted
from the owner's Draft Account. The Draft Account balance can never go
below zero. After the Draft is over, the beginning balance of the Draft
Account minus the Draft Account balance is charged to the Transaction
Account.
The Transaction Account starts with a zero balance. Each time a
transaction is entered (for example, a call-up), the owner's Transaction
Account is charged. Each time a payment is entered (through the
Payments Screen), the account is credited. STATMAN keeps track of
charges using points. Each transaction has a default number of points.
The default is specified on this screen for each transaction type. When
a transaction is entered, the default points that were entered on this
screen appear on the transaction entry screen. As the transaction is
entered, the League Secretary can accept the default charge or overtype
the amount.
The first field allows entry of a monetary value for each point charged
in STATMAN. For example: if you enter 1 in this field, each point is
valued at $1. If you enter 10 in this field, each point is valued at
$10. If you enter .01 in the field, each point is valued at one penny.
The next 4 fields specify the default points to be charged for
transactions. Remember: the values appear on the transaction entry
screen but can be overridden to charge a different amount.
The Minimum Draft Cost field specifies the minimum cost an owner must
pay to draft a player. During the draft, owners bid for players. The
winning bidder gets the player and the owner's draft account is charged
the points paid. This field specifies the minimum number of points that
can be paid for a player.
The last field, Draft Account Beginning Balance, specifies the beginning
balance of the Draft Account. Remember that this is the total points an
owner has to draft all the players for a team.
When finished entering cost information, hit the "Escape" key to return
to the Configuration Menu.
4.6 Miscellaneous
The Miscellaneous option allows you to change the season start and end
dates, specify which league you are drafting from and other options.
This option can be reached by first selecting "Configuration" from the
Main Menu and then selecting "Miscellaneous" from the Configuration
Menu.
Major League
The first field, Major League, specifies which league you will be using
to conduct the draft. Enter either AL for American League or NL for
National League.
Number of Teams
The field, Number of Teams, specifies how many Fantasy/Rotisserie teams
will be in this league.
Players Per Team
The next field, Players Per Team, specifies the number of players on
each Fantasy/Rotisserie Roster. STATMAN insures that the specified
number of players per team is never exceeded.
Rot. League Start Date
Rot. League Start Date specifies the date of the first week in the
season. STATMAN operates using weeks. The date that you enter here
will be adjusted to be a week ending date. See the section "Navigation
and Data Entry - Entering Dates" for a more detailed explanation of how
dates are adjusted in STATMAN.
No statistics or transactions may be entered with a date less than the
Start Date.
Many Rotisserie leagues start at least a week later than the major
leagues to allow the major league rosters, etc., to get established. Of
course, it is no problem configuring your league to start effective the
"Opening Day" of major league baseball.
Season End Date
The Season End Date specifies the last week of the Fantasy/Rotisserie
League season. Again, the date entered will be adjusted to be a week
ending date. Refer to "Navigation and Data Entry - Entering Dates" for
more information on entering dates in STATMAN.
Draft Open
This field specifies whether the Draft is concluded or not. A "Y" in
this field allows the Draft screen to be used (the Call-Up screen is
disabled). A "N" specifies that the draft is over (the Draft screen is
disabled, the Call-Up screen is enabled).
It is important to type a "N" in this field when the draft is over.
STATMAN modifies the data base without regard to other transactions
during the draft. If you accidentally drafted a player (verses Call Up)
during mid-season, the transactions entered prior to the Draft Date may
be corrupted.
Scan Notepad
This field specifies whether you want to automatically scan the Notepad
data base and display un-read reminder notes each time STATMAN is
started. A "Y" specifies that the scan is to be performed. A "N"
specifies that no reminder notes are to be displayed.
If this field is set to "Y", STATMAN will scan the Notepad data base
each time you start the program. If there are any un-read messages with
a date that is less than or equal to the current date, they are
displayed on the screen. The Notepad can be used as a reminder system.
When finished, the Escape key will return you to the Configuration Menu.
4.7 Screen Colors
The Screen Colors option allows you to change the way STATMAN's screens
appear on your monitor. This option can be reached by first selecting
"Configuration" from the Main Menu and then selecting "Screen Colors"
from the Configuration Menu.
If you have a color monitor, there are 16 text colors (foreground) and 8
background colors available. In addition, the text can be caused to
blink by adjusting the background color.
If you have a monochrome monitor, there are two text colors (black and
white). The text can be caused to blink or be underlined by adjusting
the background color.
The Color Selection Screen displays a list of STATMAN screens that can
be configured;
Menus
Update Statistics
Player Maintenance
Team Maintenance
Configuration
Help Box
Player List
Report Parameters
Notepad
To change the display for any of these screens, use the cursor movement
keys to highlight the name of the screen to be modified. Then use the
function keys below to change the way the screen looks. A sample screen
will change as you press the function keys to assist you in getting the
most pleasant look.
4.8 Positions
This option allows you to specify the number of players for each playing
position. This option can be reached by first selecting "Configuration"
from the Main Menu and then selecting "Positions" from the Configuration
Menu.
STATMAN ensures that each team has no more than the specified number of
players in each position during transaction entry. Use this screen to
specify how many players must occupy each position. STATMAN is
distributed with the number of players specified in "The Official Rule
Book" of Rotisserie League Baseball, but you may change these numbers to
meet your leagues requirements.
If your league is using the American League database, then, the Utility
Player is replaced by a Designated Hitter; The screen prompts will
change accordingly.
To change the number of players, just move the cursor to the field you
want to change and type over the value that is there.
When completed, type the Escape key to return to the Configuration Menu.
4.9 System Paths
The System Paths option allows the user to specify which directories
contain the STATMAN data bases. This option can be reached by first
selecting "Configuration" from the Main Menu and then selecting "System
Paths" from the Configuration Menu.
The Install program will setup a directory called STATMAN that contains
all of the programs and data bases needed to run STATMAN. You need not
make any changes to this screen in order for STATMAN to run properly.
When there is no path specified on this screen, STATMAN will search the
default directory (STATMAN) for the programs and data bases.
Some leagues prefer to keep their statistics files in a separate
directory. To do this you must first create that directory using the
MKDIR command. After the directory is created, move all of the
statistics files to the new directory using the COPY and DEL commands.
Please refer to the DOS manual that came with your computer for
instructions on how to create directories and move files. Only after
the files have been moved should you modify this screen to reflect the
new path.
When finished, type the Escape key to return to the Configuration Menu.
Part 5 PUTTING STATMAN TO WORK FOR YOU
Once you have configured STATMAN to your satisfaction, you are now ready
to begin to put STATMAN to work for your league. This section explains
how to use STATMAN to enter statistics, setup teams, enter transactions
that will modify the teams and keep track of owners and league finances.
5.1 Updating Statistics
The most important feature of STATMAN obviously is entering the
statistics. After all, without statistics, your league is meaningless
and STATMAN is of no use, whatsoever. This being the case, we will
start this chapter explaining the different ways of entering statistics
into STATMAN.
There are two ways that statistics can be entered into STATMAN. The
first method is manual; the user will enter all of the statistics for
each of the players in the Major League rosters each week. The
statistics can be gathered from publications such as newspapers, "USA
Today", "The Sporting News", etc. The second and easiest way is to
obtain weekly statistics from Fantasy Sports Software. If you decide to
subscribe to our service, we can either mail you the statistics weekly
on a floppy diskette or you can access our Bulletin Board service via
modem hookup and download them directly. Although the statistics
service is more efficient and less time consuming, STATMAN will allow
the League Secretary to enter statistics directly into STATMAN.
STATMAN maintains 5 offensive (batting) statistical categories and 7
pitching statistical categories.
These statistical categories are used to calculate team standings. For
each period, every player's statistics are accumulated to get a
Fantasy/Rotisserie team total for each statistical category. Then all
of the Fantasy/Rotisserie teams are ranked in each statistical category
from best performance to worst performance. The team with the best
performance gets the first place points, second get the second place
points, etc. The points received in each statistical category are then
totaled for each team. The total points determines the teams standings.
This process is described fully in "The Official Rotisserie League
Handbook".
5.2 Manually Updating Statistics
This option allows the League Secretary to type in the weekly statistics
for each player. This option can be reached by first selecting
"Statistics" from the Main Menu and then selecting "Update Statistics -
manually" from the Statistics Menu.
Date
The date field is used to enter the week-end date for the statistics.
Please refer to the section "Navigation and Data Entry - Entering Dates"
for a complete description on how dates are handled in STATMAN.
ML Team
The next field allows entry of the 3 character Major League Team
Abbreviation of the player whose statistics you are entering. See the
section "Navigation and Data Entry - Entering Major League Team Names"
for a detailed explanation of the options available for entering Major
League Team Names.
Player Name
This field allows entry of the players name. See the section
"Navigation and Data Entry - Entering Player Names" for a detailed
explanation.
Statistics
After the successful identification of the player, the screen will
display the statistics that have already been entered for this player
for this week or it will display zeros if no statistics have been
entered. Also, if this player is a pitcher, both offensive and pitching
statistics are displayed. The offensive statistics do not have to be
entered for a pitcher but they are available in the unlikely event that
a pitcher changes to an offensive position on one of the
Fantasy/Rotisserie teams.
(Note: If the player selected is NOT a pitcher, only the first line
(offensive statistics) will be available for updating)
To exit this screen, press the Escape key.
5.3 Update Statistics Automatically
If you decided to subscribe to Fantasy Sports Software Statistical
Service; whether receiving a weekly disk, or downloading the statistics
from our bulletin board, this is the option you will use to update your
statistics. This option can be reached by first selecting "Statistics"
from the Main Menu and then selecting "Update Statistics - Automatic"
from the Statistics Menu.
NOTE: The files you receive from our service will have a file name with
the following format:
NLMMDDYY.STA
where: NL could be NL for National League, or
AL for American League
MMDDYY is the date of the statistics
.STA is the file name extension
All of these files must be in the directory specified on the
Configuration - System Paths screen.
When the "Update Statistics - Automatic" option is selected, STATMAN
will search the directory specified on the System Paths screen for all
files with a .STA extension (the statistics files). It will then
present a pick list showing which statistics files have already been
loaded into STATMAN (and which have not).
There are two statistics files listed in the pick list at the right.
Both of these files have NOT been applied to STATMAN. The cursor will
be resting on the first .STA file in the list. If you want to apply
this file, just hit the Enter key. Another screen will pop-up and you
will see STATMAN going through each player on each team. You will not
have do anything but wait until STATMAN is finished.
While STATMAN is applying statistics, it is also performing player team
changes. For example; if a player in the Major League is traded to
another team, STATMAN will create another record in the data base for
the new team. All of the data bases are adjusted for the new Major
League team for that player; automatically.
When the program finishes applying statistics, that screen will
disappear and the pick list screen will reappear and look like the
following with the notation for the first file...APPLIED.
STATMAN has taken that .STA file and applied ALL the statistics for ALL
the players to ALL the teams in the major league database. That is all
there is to it!
To exit this option, press the Escape key.
5.4 Print Reports Menu
The Print Report Menu allows you to specify which reports to print. To
reach this menu, select "Print Reports" from the Main Menu.
There are 6 reports available in STATMAN.
The Standings Report shows the most current team standings.
The Team Rosters list all players on a Major League team or
Fantasy/Rotisserie team.
The Transaction Report list all transac tion for a Fantasy/Rotisserie
team.
The Owners Report shows all owner information including account status.
The Statistics Reports list the statistics for all players on a
Fantasy/Rotisserie team or a Major League team.
The Free Agents Report shows all players that are not currently on a
Fantasy/Rotisserie Team.
To select a report to print, use the Up and Down cursor keys to
highlight the report and then press the Enter key. To return to the
Main Menu, press the Escape key.
5.5 Print Standings
The Print Standings option allows you to calculate and display the
overall team standings. This option can be reached by selecting "Print
Reports" from the Main Menu and "Print Standings" from the Reports Menu.
STATMAN calculates standings in the following steps:
1) A team total for each of the 8 statistical categories (Bat-
ting Average, Home Runs, Runs-Batted-In, Stolen Bases, Earned
Run Average, Wins, Saves and Composite Ratio) is derived
using the team rosters, weekly statistics, configuration
rules and player status.
2) The totals in each statistical category for all teams in the
league are ranked from best performance to worst. The teams
are awarded points in each statistical category according to
their rank.
3) Each teams points are summed to get a team points total. All
of the teams are ranked according to their total points. The
team with the highest total points is the current leader.
The next highest total assumes the next rank, and so on.
This report and all reports in STATMAN, give the option of specifying a
Target for the report; screen, printer or disk file. For complete
instructions on entering the Target see "Navigation and Data Entry -
Entering Report Targets".
After this option is selected, you may see another window popup that
shows the progress in calculating the league standings. The standings
are only calculated if there has been a change to the data base
effecting standings such as addition of new statistics, roster changes,
transactions, etc.
This report has 10 columns of information. The first column has a 4
digit number representing the "Ending" date. The next column is "BA" or
the team Batting Average; "HR" is total team Home Runs; "RBI" is total
team Runs Batted In; "SB" is total team Stolen Bases; "ERA" is the team
Earned Run Average; "W" is total team Wins; "S" is total team Saves;
"C-RATIO" is the Composite team Pitching Ratio and "PNTS" is the total
team points that is used to calculate this team's standings. After each
statistic is a number representing the rank for that category.
The first line of The Brewington Budgirigars, shows the team batting
average in 2nd place, Hrs-3rd, RBIs-6th, SB-2nd, ERA-3rd, and so on
with a total points of 48. Look at the next week's totals and how they
changed.
This team went from 2nd place to 1st in batting average, remained in
third for Hrs, went from 6th to 4th place in RBIs, dropped from 2nd
place to 4th in SBs and dropped from 3rd place to 8th in ERA! The total
points dropped to 37.
If you study the example report you will notice that during the course
of the season this team's HR, RBI, SB, ERA, and WINS were the statistics
that really hurt this owner. If you look at the "Final Points
Standings", this team finished 6th in an 8 team league. As you can
tell, these statistics should be used by each owner to assess his team's
performance.
5.6 Print Team Roster
This option allows you to display a current list of players on a
Fantasy/Rotisserie team or a Major League team. This option can be
reached by selecting "Print Reports" from the Main Menu and "Print
Roster" from the Reports Menu.
The selection screen allows you to specify which league and team are to
be printed. The league can be "AL" for American League, "NL" for
National League, or "RT" for Fantasy/Rotisserie League. After selecting
the league, type in the 3 character team abbreviation. If you need help
in selecting the correct abbreviation for the team, type the F4 function
key and the team pick list will appear showing all teams for the
specified league.
The League Secretary may want to print a current roster of each team in
the league. This is no problem as STATMAN will generate a report for
ALL of the teams in the league by entering "ALL" on the line that
prompts for Team. Each of the teams will then be printed.
The next two fields are the "Target" and "Path". The "Target" field
allows you to direct the roster to the computers screen (S), to the
printer (P) or to a disk file (D). See the section "Navigation and Data
Entry - Entering Report Targets" for a complete explanation on how to
enter these fields.
This report has the date and time the report was generated, with the
Rotisserie League team name and 5 different columns that pertain to the
printed roster. These columns are referred to as Name, Team, Position,
Price, and Status.
Name - Name of Major League player on this team
Team - Name of Major League team for player
Position - Rotisserie League position for player
Price - The Price paid for player during the draft
Status - Current roster status of player
At the bottom of the report is a breakdown of current positions for this
team. A maximum number for each position is displayed in parenthesis.
Also shown is the total number of players on Injured/Reserve.
5.7 Print Transaction Report
The Transaction Report displays information for every transaction
entered into STATMAN. This option can be reached by selecting "Print
Reports" from the Main Menu and "Print Transactions" from the Reports
Menu.
In STATMAN, a transaction is recorded each time any action is taken
effecting a player on a Fantasy/Rotisserie team. The following actions
generate transactions:
a player is drafted
a player is traded to another team
a player is released
a player is placed on injured/reserve
a player is removed from injured/reserve
The selection screen allows you to specify which league and team are to
be printed. The league can be "AL" for American League, "NL" for
National League, or "RT" for Fantasy/Rotisserie League. After selecting
the league, type in the team. If you need help in selecting the correct
abbreviation for the team, type the F4 function key and the team pick
list will appear showing all teams for the specified league.
The League Secretary may want to print the transaction report for each
team in the league. This is no problem as STATMAN will generate a
report for ALL of the teams in the league by entering "ALL" on the line
that prompts for Team.
This report will list each player on the Fantasy/Rotisserie League team
and include all of the transactions that this player has been involved
in since the draft. It will also list the cost of each transaction.
Some players may not be involved in any transactions once acquired and
have only one line listed, and others; through trades, call-up,
Injured/Reserve, etc., may have multiple lines next to their names.
When transactions are entered, STATMAN automatically updates all of the
information on the player involved. STATMAN will automatically change
the player's team, position, roster and if the player was involved in a
trade will cease to use any future statistics of the player for his
former team but WILL use the statistics for his new team. This report
will tell the Secretary if the transactions occurred properly by what is
displayed. This report can also help the team owner when evaluating
personnel moves. For example, if a player goes on and off the disabled
list repeatedly, that fact may have a bearing on whether the owner wants
to keep this player, trade him or even release him. The report can also
serve as a safety check with each owner to ensure trades, etc., were
conducted properly.
5.8 Print Owners
The Owner's Report shows name, address, and accounting information for
team owners. This option can be reached by selecting "Print Reports"
from the Main Menu and "Print Owners" from the Reports Menu.
This report is a record for the Secretary, of each Owner's name address
and phone number. The most important reason this report is necessary is
that it will also allow the Secretary keep track of charges and balances
of each team Owner.
For each Team Owner, the report will show owners name; team abbreviation
and team name; address, including city, state and zip code; and
telephone number. To the right of this information is a column
displaying the Owner's current Draft Balance; transaction charges
to-date; payments made for those transaction charges, and the current
balance owed to the league's treasury.
Draft Bal - This signifies the amount of money left in the Owner's
account after the draft has been conducted.
Trans Chgs - This amount indicates the total amount of money the owner
has expended conducting various transactions. This is the total amount
owed to the league.
Payments - This amount indicates the total amount the Owner has paid to
the league offsetting the outstanding charges.
Balance - This is the difference between what the Owner owes the league
and the amount of money the Owner paid the league.
Whenever a payment is received by the Secretary or Treasurer and is
entered into STATMAN, the Payments and Balance columns are updated
automatically.
5.9 Print Statistics
This report displays all of the statistics of each team in the
Fantasy/Rotisserie League, and the Major League. This option can be
reached by selecting "Print Reports" from the Main Menu and "Print
Statistics" from the Reports Menu.
This report is essential in order for each Owner to know how each of the
players on his team is performing. Without a report showing player
performance, it is impossible for the Owners to determine what his team
needs in order to improve. This report is broken down week by week and
will allow the Owners the knowledge of a "streaking" player, one in a
"slump", or even if one did not play for a period, thus, not
contributing to the team. Any and/or all of this information can be used
in determining the status of the player; whether or not the player is
being considered for a trade or release, or whether or not the player
performed well enough during the current season to have him remain on
the roster for the next season.
These statistics can be printed for your Fantasy/Rotisserie League, or
you can printout the statistics of a Major League team.
Select the league that has the stats that you want printed. You will
then select the team, give the target information requested, and path,
if needed.
The Secretary may want to print the statistics report for each team in
the league. This is no problem as STATMAN will generate a report for
ALL of the teams in the league by entering "ALL" on the line that
prompts for Team. Each of the teams will then be printed.
If the statistics being displayed are batting statistics, the screen
will state this. If these statistics are pitching statistics, it will
state that information, also. Underneath the type of stats is the
player's name. Adjacent to the player's name is the statistics recorded
by the player.
Batting Statistics:
Date - the week ENDING date for the statistics
AB - total number of official "At Bats" for the period
H - total number of "Hits" credited to this player for
the period
HR - total number of "Home Runs" hit for the period
RBI - total number of "Runs Batted In" for the period
SB - total "stolen bases" for the period
BA - the player's batting average for the period displayed
Team Total - There will not be a date given but this line
will give a complete team total for all the above
statistics.
Pitching Statistics:

S - total "Saves" recorded by this pitcher for this
period
ERA - this pitcher's "Earned Run Average" for the period
C-RATIO - the "Composite Pitching Ratio" determined for this
period
Team Total - There will not be a date given but this line
will give a complete team total for all the pitch-
ing statistics for the team displayed.
5.10 Print Free Agents
This option allows the printing of "all" the eligible players in the
database that are not on a Fantasy/Rotisserie League team. This option
can be reached by selecting "Print Reports" from the Main Menu and
"Print Free Agents" from the Reports Menu.
This list is used mainly by the Owners for calling up players and
determining future transactions. By knowing which players are still
available, the Owner can use this information for determining roster
moves, trades, etc.
To print this report you will be prompted for a date. The date specifies
the week-ending period for the report. The report will list all free
agents for the specified week-ending period. Next enter the report
Target. The Target field specifies whether you want the report printed
to the computer's screen (S), to the printer (P) or to a disk file. See
the section "Navigation and Data Entry - Entering Report Targets" for a
complete explanation of the Target field.
The report will not only display a complete list of eligible players,
but also provide a complete statistical record for the player. Pitchers
will have pitching statistics displayed and non-pitchers will have
batting statistics displayed. These statistics are the same as those
that are displayed in the "Print Statistics" report.
